What is dengue fever?
Dengue is a viral disease transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes mainly in tropical and subtropical areas worldwide, with increased risk of:
* Southeast Asia.
* The Central South China.
* The Caribbean (except Cuba and the Cayman Islands).
* Central America.
Dengue fever occurs most often in urban areas, but could also be found in rural areas, especially in areas with elevation below 4,000 feet (1,200 meters). Transmission of the virus, via Aedes mosquitoes, usually occurs during and just after the rainy season. These mosquitoes are most active during the day and are often found near human dwellings, often inside homes.
