Definition of malaria
Malaria is also called an infectious disease caused by a parasite, Plasmodium (Plasmodium falciparum, Plasmodium vivax). The latter is transmitted to humans by the bite of an infected female mosquito, Anopheles.
This type of mosquito is common in tropical countries (South-East Asia, Africa, Central America). However, with many trips to those countries, importation of the disease is possible.
Note that only the Anopheles picnic at the dark, why it is essential to take preventive measures.
The untreated disease is fatal and kills even today. To treat malaria, there chemotherapy.
Causes malaria
As seen in the definition of malaria, the disease is caused by a parasite, Plasmodium. Two species of this parasite are particularly problematic and causes the disease malaria: Plasmodium falciparum and Plasmodium vivax. These stay in the Anopheles (a kind of mosquito, female), then is transmitted to humans in bites (mosquito).
The plasmodium, once introduced into the human body goes to the liver and red blood cells. The rupture of red blood cells causes the fever, symptoms characteristic of the disease. In another mosquito, the anopheles mosquito that sucks blood and becomes infected again host the parasite and transmitted later to another man. Thus, the two hosts of this protozoan is the man and the mosquito.
The liver is a place for development of the protozoan, but again, it is also a place where the parasite can reside and reappear later. This explains why the attacks of fever may be remote from a few days to years.
Malaria Symptoms
The incubation time (up to the manifestation of symptoms) usually lasts between 10 and 20 days.
Typical symptoms of malaria are then:
* Bouts of high fever, 40-41 ° C
* Attacks of fever are intermittently: daily, every 2 days or every 3 days. These crises are the breakdown of red blood cells where the parasite has increased.
* Chills
* A drop in temperature with profuse sweating and a sensation of cold
* Extreme fatigue after the crisis of fever
* An alteration of the general fatigue, yellowish pigmentation of skin, anemia, acute or chronic (due to breakage of red blood cells)
Plants to cure malaria
In use the Chinese herbal plant Artemisia annua (Artemisia annua) for thousands of years to treat malaria.
With good reason, as recent studies have actually shown the efficiency of the wormwood. The active molecule of this plant is called artemisinin. This molecule is taken today in tablet form and is often combined with other therapies to treat malaria in the best and limit resistance.
Note that although this is the herbal medicine, do not practice self-medication. Always consult a doctor because malaria can be a serious illness alone can find the best treatment for your situation.
