
Definition of malaria
Malaria is also called an infectious disease caused by a parasite, Plasmodium (Plasmodium falciparum, Plasmodium vivax). The latter is transmitted to humans by the bite of an infected female mosquito, Anopheles.
This type of mosquito is common in tropical countries (South-East Asia, Africa, Central America). However, with many trips to those countries, importation of the disease is possible.

The untreated disease is fatal and kills even today. To treat malaria, there chemotherapy.
